Transcutaneous Spinal Electroanalgesia (TSE) is a form of electrical pain relief that bridges the gap between TENS machines and implanted spinal cord stimulators. TSE pulses are very short (less than four microseconds), high frequency (up to 20kHz) and high voltage (up to 250V). These pulses are very much shorter in duration but higher power than TENS and are therefore able to penetrate deep tissues more effectively.
Wherever the pains may be, TSE is delivered by electrodes placed on the skin over the spinal cord, which allows multiple painful areas to be treated simultaneously. As the pulses are so short, they cause little more than a mild tingling sensation, so the therapy is well tolerated by most patients.
In a study (0105), 79% of patients using the device reported better than 50% relief of pain. TSE has also been clinically proven to improve mood and aid relaxation.
In addition to the TSE waveforms, Acticare can generate
a wide range of other electrotherapy modalities, including:
• Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) Constant, Burst, and Modulated modes
• High Frequency TENS up to 500Hz
• Acupuncture-like TENS (AL-TENS) down to 1Hz
• Neuromuscular stimulation (NMES)
• High voltage pulsed galvanic stimulation
