The UltraCane is all about feeling safe and confident. It is an electronic primary aid, which can be used in place of other mobility aids such as the ordinary white cane. It gives all the information the user can get from a white cane, plus it uses ultrasonic echoes to find out where obstacles are ahead and at head height. This information is converted into vibrating buttons in the handle, telling the user where an object may be and how far away the obstacle lies. The UltraCane enables the user to build up a spatial map of their surroundings. Because of the way the brain works, the user quickly adapts to these signals and does not need to interpret them, it happens naturally.
The comfortable, contoured handle minimises any risk of Repetitive Strain Injury and has been found to enable use even with arthritic hands. Lightweight with a carefully tested height/weight distribution the design is both stylish and fashionable.
Extensive trials over the last five years ensure the UltraCane meets the needs of the visually impaired. Supplied with a roller tip and Ambutech cane, optional tips are available. Weight 455g.
